A Domain Name is the text name corresponding to the numeric IP address of a computer on the internet. A domain name must be unique. Internet users access your website using your domain name.
What makes a Domain Name valuable?
Location, Location, Location! There can only be ONE, and there is not another one like it! There can only be one Money.com or one RealEstate.com in the whole world! There are other extensions like .net, .org, .biz, .info etc but the most common and most valuable are .com’s. Also known as the King of the market. Other extensions work better for other reason’s. .org is very common for Non-Profit originations. The .net is the “Second Best”. A .net works well, if the .com is out of your price range, but remember, you will lose a lot of traffic to the .com because it is natural for people to type .com . The .info is a newer extension, and works very well for an informational site etc. A newer extension is the .us and .mobi . The .us is a country extension and works just like the .com but could be used for a company wanting to state that they are located in the US ( United States ) The .mobi extension is yet to be proven, but there is a lot of hype. What Domain Names are “Good Buys”?
Again, Generic .com Domain Names hold the most value. (Loan.com Bike.com Diamond.com RealEstate.com etc)
Short / Brandable .coms! Short domains are very rare. The most rare and valuable ones are LL.com / .net / .org & LLL.com / .net / .org / .us . LLL stands for Letter Letter Letter ! What makes these very valuable and rare are, there is only 17,000 possible way’s to make an LLL combo. Most companies are 2 and 3 word combinations. It is hard to remember all the words, let alone type them all in. So the best thing to do, is to use an LL or LLL combination for your company website. Let’s say you own International Food Services. That would be very hard for your customer to remember, let alone to type in all the time. So, you would want the domain name IFS.com or IFS.net. It is much easier to market IFS.com than it is InternationalFoodServices.com . A side note as well, it is always good to cover all your bases, so in this case, you would want to own IFS.com and InternationFoodServices.com and you could just (Forward or Point) the longer domain name to the shorter one. So no matter what domain your customer typed in, they would go to your site!
Keyword Domains ! Keyword Domains are domains that I call “What people are looking for” (NewCar.com PetToys.com CarParts.com DesignerClothes.com WebsiteDesign.com etc.)
Traffic Domains ! Traffic domains can be worth almost as much as Generic .com’s depending on the quality of the traffic! If the traffic comes for “Good” links, let’s say Bike.com, BikeParts.com etc and is making money on PPC (Pay Per Click) the domains value is based on it revenue. The going rate for traffic domains is 12-60 Months X’s Revenue. Traffic domains that do not make money, go for about $10 per 100 unique visitor’s.
What costs are involved with domain names?
After your purchase price, the only fee’s for the Domain Name, are your annual renewal fee’s. These fee’s range depending upon which Registrar you have the domain with. Most fee’s are in the range of $8.00-$19.95 . You can pay these fee’s per year, or you can pay for them up to 10 years in advance. Yofie.com recommends Moniker.com and GoDaddy.com

Domain Parking! (PPC Revenue)
Again, there are several different companies to use. I have done best with NameDrive.com and Fabulous.com .
What happens when you “Park” a domain name?
You maintain control of your domain name! (Here are some basics, but please check with the parking company that you would like to use) You set your DNS (Domain Name Servers) to the companies requirements. You then add your domain to your account at the parking company of your choice. This allows you to set settings for what should be on the site. Keywords etc. (Basically the only thing that is on the site, are Ads, which make you money, every time somebody clicks on a link, you earn money.) This is called PPC.
You can Forward any Domain Name that you own! Domain Forwarding (Also called Pointing) is when you forward one domain name to another. It is always best to set yourself up as one name. Again, Let’s say you owned Bike.com and that is your main business. You can also own, BikeParts.com and Forward it to Bike.com . So when somebody typed in BikeParts.com it would send them to Bike.com automatically. You will see this a lot with Plural terms, company names and Traffic Domains.
